filmbore wants you! Memories of March 2013

filmbore wants you! March 2013

A few months to go. Would have cleared this sooner if I wasn't so bus writing up lots of lovely reviews for my mate's up-and-coming zine Eyelid's Of Dawn Part 2, but it'll be worth the wait, I promise. So, the clock is ticking for you to put in your votes for the first 52 reviews published on filmbore from June 2012 to May 2013. Each pick-of-the-week is up for the cup, for a spot in a special Top 20, listing the best of the bunch...

Back on track then, let's sift through the memories of March 2013...

Keeping promises, I kept producing Top Ten lists for you, throwing out two in one month (well, five technically...read on). In the busy haze of the success of Les Miserables, I decided to piece together a list on musicals. Undecided between three sub-topics (Comedy Musicals, Cool Musicals, Dark Musicals) I decided to blend them together to create an ultimate Top Ten Musicals With A Difference. This garnered lots of comments both through the site and on Facebook, so I want to thank all of you who got involved. Plus, this post contains the original three lists I put together, so you get a quartet of charts to get your teeth into!

The other list was even more left field, looking at movies adapted from graphical literature more absent of the typical superheroes and caped crusaders with Top Ten "Non-Spandex" Comic Book Conversions. There's some fantastic films in this list too, and you may be surprised that at some being from such source material. Not bad for a month's work.

Sadly though, the month ended with some awful news. One of the UK's finest film and stage actors was lost to us forever, if only in life as we will have him forever on celluloid. Richard Griffiths O.B.E. is one of our most loved thespians and is regarded as on of the most gifted character actors too. In tribute to his brilliance and to thank him for the gifts he has left for us over the years, I put together this little remembrance, cataloguing some of his greatest moments on screen, accompanied by quotes, images and videos. Rest in peace Richard...

Of course, what we are here for us for the film reviews. Luck timing, once again, meant we had five top quality pictures to read about. Yet, do any sway your favour to be in the ultimate Top 20 list? Are you a fan of the underdog indie, with Twin Town doing it for the Welsh? Did Marion Cotillard tug your heart strings in the brilliantly moving Rust And Bone? Or was it Hushpuppy 'Beasting It' in Beasts Of The Southern Wild that floated your boat? Or are you a purveyor of animated features, wowed by the stunning visuals of Tales Of The Night? Or maybe, just like me, you can't get enough Ben Wheatley, loving the UK comedy success of Sightseers?

A hard bunch to pick from but without your comments they may get missed. Should one, some or all of these films be considered in my ultimate Top 20 of the first year of filmbore? You must choose...so comment below
